PARENT OF AE-FUNAI ALUMNUS DONATES 500 PLANTAIN SUCKERS IN SUPPORT OF CAMPUS-GREEN INITIATIVE
As a show of support to the Campus-Green Initiative of the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, geared towards making the institution the greenest, most beautiful and eco-friendly campus in Nigeria, a parent of an alumnus and wife of the Anglican Bishop of Ikwo Diocese, Mrs. Afoma Ifemene, recently donated 500 plantain suckers.
Receiving the suckers on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Parents/Alumni Relations Officer, Miss Eucharia Nwonu noted that the parents and guardians of the university’s students as well as its alumni were in full support of the vision of making the institution a University in a garden.
She further commended the donor for her good gestures, adding that the envisaged plantain plantation would in no distant time generate financial gains for the University with its produce providing food for both staff and students. She also used the opportunity to call on other parents to emulate the philanthropic nature of the donor by supporting the University in their own little ways in order to take the institution to enviable heights.
While handing over the suckers to the Parents/Alumni Relations Officer, Mrs Ifemene said: “My daughter is an alumnus of the university and as part of our contribution to the association; we decided to donate these plantain suckers to support them.”
She explained that she has been having the desire to donate economic trees and raise tree plantations within the University campus as a means of securing ownership of the campus from unnecessary encroachment.
She further stated that the plantain plantation would boost the financial strength of association in particular and the University in general.
‘I want to have not only one plantation in this university and that is why my husband and I decided to ensure its realization with this donation. It is also aimed at assisting the purse of the Alumni Association.
“Furthermore, we want to have a legacy and clear record after our humanitarian mission service that our names are engraved in the record of the university”, she concluded.
Meanwhile, the President of AE-FUNAI Alumni Association, Mr. Ngwoke Victor, has expressed his deepest appreciation on the donation, adding that it has once again reinforced the commitment of the association towards supporting the Management in its drive to make the institution a reference point in the comity of world-acclaimed Universities.
