NEW DIRECTOR FOR AE-FUNAI CHRD TAKES OVER MANTLE
New Director, Centre for Human Resource and Development, Dr. Smart Otu on Friday, 30th August, 2019, took over mantle of leadership, from Dr. Onyebuchi Chima, as new Director.
Presenting his handover note, Dr. Chima thanked Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity given to him to serve the Directorate and University. He also thanked Resource Persons who participated in all their trainings, noting that incidentally, Dr. Otu, his successor, was his first resource person. He pointed out that his coming brought a new phase and transformed the centre to where it is today, in terms of achievements and visibility.
The out-going Director, averred that the Directorate, at inception, received approval from the management, to train staff who were recruited from various sectors of the society but without university administrative background, to as a matter of necessity, impart them with fresh breathe of the environment and acclimatization required to key in properly to become suitable university resources . “We had mandatory orientation scheme for all the newly recruited staff”, He said adding that his leadership was able to harness diversified interests from business, politics, artisans and academia into fruitful and productive staff.
Dr. Chima iterated that the centre recommended and focus training on four basic stages and formats; Personal; Departmental/Unit; Faculty and University-wide.
Dr. Chima also said that he floated 21 trainings in the university and had representatives in every unit, appointed facilitators, launched web page domiciled in the university, had telephone contacts file and made all his staff enduring member of TETfund Committee and developed relevant data base for the university. He mentioned that management gave a plot of land in the campus for the Centre and that in collaboration with the Directorate of Physical Planning, Works and Services, has produced design for a multipurpose building to accommodate the Directorate in view of its numerous activity requirements.
In his acceptance speech, the in-coming Director, Dr. Smart Otu, thanked Dr. Chima for putting together the hand over formalities, which to him was not expected stating without mincing words that he, Dr. Chima has done very well and that by the detailed hand over note, he has given him tonic to work with. Dr. Otu said that his leadership will continue to work with his predecessor. “We are not going to let you go. We shall be meeting you from time to time and remember, no one knows it all”.
He thanked VC, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, for making sure that everyone has a taste of leadership in the university and promises happy moment for the support staff, even as he seeks innovative ideas from them.
