BISHOP OKORO VISITS FUNAI, PLEDGES SUPPORT OF CATHOLIC CHURCH
The Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Dr. Michael Okoro on Friday, 10th February, 2017 paid a visit to the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, pledging the support of the Catholic Church to the moral and infrastructural development of the University.
This is the first time the spiritual and administrative leader of Catholic faithful in Ebonyi state was visiting the University.
Receiving the Bishop who was represented by one of the Priest Personnel Officers in the diocese, Rev. Fr. Dr. Edward Inya-Nwachi, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba thanked His Lordship for finding time to visit the University. The Vice Chancellor noted that the University cannot educate the students alone, calling on the church to engage the students and occupy their minds, in order to ensure that they do not take to vices and other unwholesome behaviours.
The Vice Chancellor further stressed the importance of places of worship in a University where Christian faithful on campus and its environs would be worshipping in. Prof. Nwajiuba therefore, called on His Lordship to erect a good place of worship on campus where the catholic community would be using for their spiritual activities, adding that a portion of land has already been made available by the University Management for that purpose.
Bishop Okoro in his remarks expressed the gratitude of the Catholic Church to the University Management for the land allocated to her to build a place worship, pledging to ensure that a befitting church building is erected for the Catholic community in the University.
The Catholic Bishop was accompanied on the visit by the Chaplain of the Holy Family Catholic Chaplaincy, FUNAI, Rev. Fr. Peter Agbo.
The highpoint of the visit was the commissioning of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology workshop by His Lordship, Bishop Okoro.
