Prof.Chukwunonso E.C.C. Ejike

Professor of Medical Biochemistry

Chukwunonso E.C.C. Ejike, born on the soft green hills of Nsukka, studied all through at the University of Nigeria, and earned a PhD in Biochemistry in 2010. Nonso (as he is fondly called) had his postdoctoral training at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada (2012-2013). Between 2013 and 2015, he attended short courses and trainings in Universities and Research Centres in South Africa, India, France and Sweden. In 2015, and 2018 he was a Visiting Fellow at the Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrucken, Germany, sponsored by TWAS/DFG and DAAD, respectively. He has won several grants from local and international agencies to support his research on the epidemiology of chronic diseases and nature-inspired compounds with applications in medicine and agriculture. To his credit are more than ninety papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals (about half of which are ‘Category A’ journals), five books, and scores of conference presentations. With an H-index of 18 and more than one thousand, one hundred citations, he is currently ranked by Webometrics in the top 150 scholars in Nigeria. He was awarded the prestigious AE-FUNAI Researcher of the year 2017.

Chukwunonso Ejike began his career as an academic in 2007 at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), as an Assistant Lecturer. He rose through the ranks in MOUAU, and in 2015 as a Lecturer I, he left its services and joined the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State as a Senior Lecturer. In recognition of the quality and quantity of his contributions to his area of research interest, to teaching, and to service and community development, in October, 2018, he became the first AEFUNAI academic staff to be promoted by accelerated promotion from Senior Lecturer to the rank of full Professor.

Professor C.E.C.C. Ejike has served in numerous committees of the University. He has also served at different times as Head of Department of Medical Biochemistry, Director Centre for Internationalisation and Advancement, and Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences. He currently serves the University as the Director, Academic Planning
