About Faculty of Education

Established in 2016, the Faculty of Education is one of the newest faculties in the University.

  • The Faculty offers a variety of programmes in education based on foundations of excellent scholarship, research and practice-based learning. The inaugural four years’ programmes are as follows: B. (Ed) Mathematics Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Biology Education, BA (Ed) English and Literary Studies, B.Ed. Business Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Physical and Health Education, B.Sc. (Ed) Physics Education and B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry Education.
  • Our programmes offer students the opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of education in a national and global context. Each programme presents numerous opportunities to develop a range of transferable skills, such as critical reflection, systematic analysis, communication, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, presentation and writing.
  • The faculty encompasses four departments as follows: Department of Arts and Humanities Education; Department of Science Education; Department of Technological and Vocational Education and Department of Educational Foundation (Service Department).
  • Our programmes offer students the opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of education in a national and global context. Each programme presents numerous opportunities to develop a range of transferable skills, such as critical reflection, systematic analysis, communication, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, presentation and writing.
  • Courses are taught by research active, friendly and highly qualified team of passionate academics who bring a wealth of professional experience within education and related sectors to their teaching. We pride ourselves on scholarly excellence and strive to do the best in everything we do.

Philosophy and Objectives 

The philosophy and objectives of the programmes offered by the Faculty of Education are derived from the National Policy on Education namely:

  • To produce highly motivated, conscientious research-oriented and efficient classroom teachers
  • To encourage the spirit of inquiry and creativity in teachers
  • To help teachers fit into the social life of the community and society at large and to enhance their commitment to national objectives
  • To prepare teachers with the intellectual and professional background adequate for their assignments and to make them adaptable to changing situations
  • To enhance teachers’ commitment to the teaching profession

Specifically, the faculty is committed to achieving the following objectives:

  • To produce prospective teachers with proper leadership qualities.
  • To produce teachers with the knowledge, skills and attitudes which will enablethem to contribute to the growth and development of their communities in particular and their nation in general
  • To produce teachers who have sound mastery of their subject areas and the ability to impart such knowledge to their students.
  • To equip teachers with a mastery of problem solving skills
  • To produce highly motivated,   conscientious        and    efficient classroom teachers for all levels of our educational system.
  • To enhance teachers’ commitment to the teaching profession.
  • To enhance the skills of teacher’s in the use of new technologies.
