October 9 - October 10

Call for Papers:

IZA Workshop: Labor and Development

Gary S. Fields (Cornell University and IZA)
Elie Murard (IZA)
David A. Robalino (World Bank and IZA)

Place: IZA, Bonn            Date: October 9 – 10, 2017        Deadline: May 28, 2017

About the Workshop

The Program on Labor and Development is concerned with the functioning of labor markets in developing countries, with a particular focus on employment and earnings both in wage employment and in self-employment. The aim of the 2017 IZA Workshop on Labor and Development is to bring together senior and junior researchers to discuss their recent research on the workings of developing countries’ labor markets.

Empirical and theoretical examinations of labor markets are both encouraged, especially in a dynamic context. While macroeconomic and microeconomic approaches are both welcome, highest priority will be given to market-level analyses – that is, how employment and wages are determined in each labor market and how conditions in one labor market affect those in another. Other topics of particular interest are market externalities, displacement effects, overeducation, lighthouse effects, and economic well-being.

Researchers interested in participating should submit a full paper or extended abstract by May 28, 2017 using our online application form.

Travel and Accommodation

Those authors who are invited are expected to participate in the complete workshop. Economy class airfares and up to 3 nights of lodging for presenting authors will be covered according to the IZA Reimbursement Guidelines.

Kindly note that tax regulations prohibit IZA from fully reimbursing the travel expenses of conference participants who combine their trip with other destinations or extend their stay beyond the four-day window surrounding the event.
